Best show of the summer, hands down. Now to hope they appreciate small markets……
Riley Breckenridge, drummer extraordinaire, has turned me on to countless bands, in ever increasing genres over the years. Check out his top 25 of ‘12 and possibly discover a gem or two yourself.
I’ve been making Top 10 lists for myself and various websites for almost 10 years, and I’m not sure I’ve ever had as much trouble compiling a list as I did this year. I scoured my iTunes playlist and Last.fm stats to try to make this list be as accurate a reflection of my favorite records of the year as it possibly could be. (Note: I said “favorite”, not “the best”, because who the f**k am I and what right do I have to say that the records that I liked the most this year are “the best”?)
I managed to narrow my favorite records down to 25 of which were in heavy rotation this year, and did my best to narrow those 25 down to 11 (because 10 was one too few) for Property of Zack. If you were to ask me for my Top 10 of 2012 in a week from now, I’m fairly certain the entire list would be completely different, save the top three or four records.
I’ve done my best to fight indecision and an squash a healthy fear of commitment to submit the following list. (I’ve also included a brief sentence [or two … or three] for each record in the Top 11 to explain its inclusion on the list.)
My favorite 25 records of 2012 appear after the jump.
